Right on the cobblestones of Kassiopi harbour, the terrace opens to the boats and the strait, the Albanian mountains on the horizon.
In front, a plane tree two hundred and fifty years old. Beneath it, the same table, kept for over seventy years.

Tables a few steps from the harbour wall, the boats coming in behind you. The light turns from white to gold to lantern. Nowhere in Corfu sounds like this.

Built by the owner's father in 1951, one of only two tavernas in Kassiopi, where the fishermen met at the end of the day.
The first tourist came by caique in 1962. The road stayed unpaved until 1967. The little taverna kept its standards through all of it.
Rebuilt in 1983, yellow and white on Corfiot lines. Still on the harbour, still facing the mountains. At heart, still a fishing village.
